Where to Swim at the Tbilisi Sea: A Local Guide

The Tbilisi Sea is a large artificial lake covering over 11 square kilometers. Locals call it a “sea” because of its impressive size and breezy coastline that resembles a real seaside. It stretches around 9 km long and 3 km wide, with a maximum depth of about 45 meters. In the summer, the water temperature hovers around 77°F (25°C). It’s a popular place for locals to enjoy fresh air, scenic views, and a bit of fishing. Whether you’re into sunbathing or splashing around, there are both free and paid beaches to explore.
Wild Beach (Free)
Despite warning signs and potential fines, many people still swim here. The shoreline is rocky and hard to access, and unfortunately, several tragic accidents have occurred. In addition to safety concerns, visitors often leave trash behind. While you can sunbathe, walk, or picnic here, swimming, littering, and making fires are officially prohibited.
Bollywood Beach (Free)
This gently sloping beach is a hub for kite surfers. Swimming is technically banned, but kite surfing is allowed, and the presence of trainers and other surfers creates a semi-supervised environment. Still, the wind makes the water rough, so it’s not the best choice for casual swimmers.
City Beach (Free)
This is the best maintained of the free beaches, with:
- Marked swimming zones with buoys
- Lifeguards on shore and in boats
- Trash bins available
- Sun loungers and umbrellas for rent
- Easy water access
- Changing rooms (small fee required)
- Boat and pedal boat rentals
- Café with drinks
- Snack vendors walking the beach
Note: The shore looks like a pebble beach but is actually made of sharp stones. Water shoes are highly recommended.
Tbilisi Sea Club (Paid)
Located on a beautiful peninsula, this private club offers:
- Secure and clean beach
- Bungalows
- Water slide
- Playground for kids
- Café
- Changing facilities
- Two swimming pools
- Water sports like skiing, sailing, diving
- Restaurant and bar
- Secure parking
Entry fees:
Monday to Friday – 35 GEL (approx. $13)
Weekends – 40 GEL (approx. $15)
Gino Paradise (Paid)
This large water park and wellness center includes:
- 12 pools including wave pools and children’s pools
- Relaxation pools with hydro-massage
- Wild River with artificial current
- Outdoor pool with spectator seating
- Tarzan rope park and Dino park
- Mystery cave with waterfall
- Toboggan slide – tallest in Eastern Europe

- Trout fishing lake

Whether you’re looking for a free spot to relax or a full beach club experience, the Tbilisi Sea offers something for everyone.
Alternative Swimming Spots: For those seeking other options, locals recommend Lisi Lake and Turtle Lake within Tbilisi. Additionally, Zhinvali Reservoir and Sioni are mentioned as swimmable spots outside the city, though they may require a drive.
