Be sure to stop at the Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, a colorful structure with sweeping views over the valley. This stop sits at an elevation of 2,200 meters (7,200 feet). Gergeti Trinity Church – The Crown Jewel

The highlight of your journey is the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church, perched on a hilltop overlooking the town of Stepantsminda. Located at an altitude of 2,170 meters (7,120 feet), the church sits beneath the dramatic peaks of Mount Kazbegi. You can hike up to the church if you’re up for a challenge, or drive a vehicle to the summit.

Entrance is free, but visitors are asked to respect local customs. Women should wear skirts and head coverings inside the church. From the church grounds, enjoy sweeping views of the Caucasus Mountains, breathe in the alpine air, and stroll along the grassy paths that surround this spiritual site.
